Identification and Analysis
The UBFS Biology Section plays a vital role in Utah's criminal justice system by analyzing biological evidence to link suspects, victims, and crime scenes.

Our Biology Section

What we do

The Forensic Biology/DNA section analyzes biological evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies. Our services include:

  • Serological screening and DNA testing on evidence from a wide range of crimes, including homicide, sexual assault, felony assault, robbery, and burglaries.
  • Examining evidence to identify biological materials of value.
  • Developing DNA profiles from samples of interest, such as those from sexual assault kits, excised stains, and swabs.
  • Participating in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) program to help resolve suspect-less cases.
